If you're not into nature, the Between can become a boring place to live. For Katarina, it is exactly that. She longs to live in the "real" world where she can enjoy city life. She's a socialist with little interest in the nature the Between has to offer, and she can't wait to make her escape from it. 

 

When she gets away from her family she does make an escape to the natural world and often will spend the entire day there exploring, making friends, and trying out all the new things it has to offer. She believes her family is far too detached from society and tries to convince them every chance she gets that they should move back to normalcy. Of course, it hasn't worked yet, especially since her siblings are so caught up in living in the Between. 

 

Katarina's favorite part of her escapes is when she gets to shop. She's a shopaholic and finds small jobs like lawn care or delivery to make the money to fuel her desires. When she returns home, she hides all of her earthly belongings since she doesn't want her family to know just how different she is from the rest of them - or how much time she spends away from their paradise. She is a little bitter toward them, and is a moody girl at times. Her personality leans toward being high maintenance and demanding - though, it's always a sight to see her light up at all her new discoveries in the natural world.
